To attend the official Rock Climbing Instructor training course candidates must demonstrate 12 months of outdoor climbing experience and have led 15 routes on single pitch crags using leader-placed protection. The mission of the Pre-Training is to inspire a passion for climbing and provide the foundations to be a good and safe climber ready to attend your Rock Climbing Instructor training.
The Rock Climbing Instructor Pre-Training is aimed to introduce aspirant instructors and climbers into outdoor lead climbing and gain the skills and experience required to attend the Rock Climbing Instructor training course. For many, finding a reliable partner to climb with and the assurance of safe and current practice in lead climbing techniques can be difficult. Therefore the purpose of this course is to pair up likeminded people and cover the skills required to take the plunge in outdoor climbing.
The course will consist of four days of input starting with bolt protected lead climbing (sport) on Portland and then a second day setting up abseils and placing leader protection (traditional) at a local Swanage crag. The third and fourth day will be a weekend in the Peak District where candidates will be supervised more remotely to consolidate these skills.
Candidates are required to pay for their own accommodation whilst away in the Peak District and provide their own transport, however car sharing is encouraged. The course costs £230 which includes all the tuition and equipment required for the different styles of climbing. You need to provide your own climbing shoes and harness along with a strong background in indoor climbing.
Before attending some previous indoor climbing experience is required and indoor lead climbing will be an advantage.
