Aim of the Pre Mountain Leader Training

To attend the official Mountain Leader training course, candidates must have 12 months of hill walking experience and have 20 quality mountain days logged. The Pre Mountain Leader Training course is aimed at those who enjoy walking in the hills and those who would like to learn more about walking in the mountains. During the training candidates will develop their navigation skills in moorland and mountain environments, whilst also covering theory in environmental considerations, access and much more. On completion candidates will have achieved four quality mountain days for their log book and have the skills/confidence to take their own mountain walking further.

The course will consist of four days of input with a maximum ratio of 1:6 starting with a weekend in the Brecon Beacons followed by a second weekend in Dartmoor. Candidates will require their own waterproof clothing and walking boots. Maps can be provided, but it is strongly encouraged for candidates to purchase their own for future excursions.

Candidates are required to pay for their own accommodation whilst away and provide their own transport, however car sharing is strongly encouraged. The course costs £195 which covers the four days of tuition.
